Run as part of the Bringing Namoi Rural Communities Together project, Healthy Farms, Healthy Farmers recognised that the best way to ensure the wellbeing of individual farmers, their families and communities is to help them run successful farms in a increasingly challenging environment.
The program took a multifaceted approach to the challenges facing our farmers. Education programs covered:
- Mental health and suicide prevention
- Managing livestock under climate change pastures
- Carbon trading impact on farmers
The program was funded by the Federal Government and partners included the Salvation Army and local Catchment Management Authorities (CMA).
We wish to extend the current program and take the program Australia-wide to all rural communities who are currently suffering from drought, salinity and land degradation and who could benefit in human, agricultural and environmental ways from this holistic program.
